Born Gold – Hunger

I’m going to cuss. This is a weird as* muther F$$$ing video. Check it out! It’s awesome!

From the album I Am an Exit (2013)

Some Stuff:

Last year’s Little Sleepwalker, Cecil Frena’s official debut as Born Gold, often sounded like a survey of modern electronic subgenres without much of a personal stamp. In his review of that record, Ian Cohen wrote that it lacked a “point of view,” a polite way of saying that it’s hard to  pinpoint what a “Born Gold song” sounded like because it’s uncertain if, at that point, such a thing existed.

“Hunger”, our first peek at the forthcoming I Am an Exit (out October 8 via Art Control/Hovercraft), goes a long way towards correcting Little Sleepwalker‘s faults. Frena wields a festival-sized hook that, for a change, you don’t have to squint to hear. Ditching the digital obfuscation he’s previously relied on, Frena’s vocals are upfront and clearer than they’ve ever been, his aching tenor swelling to a breaking point as he tries to put himself back together after what sounds like the end of an unhealthy relationship. Frena sings of “treading water for days,” but for the first time in his career, he sounds comfortable with his breaststroke.

Previously, Frena made music under the name Gobble Gobble, before he made the change in 2011 to Born Gold.

Love Inks – Outta Sight

Not the best music video, but the song is a “close your eyes and remember college” type.

From the album Generation Club (2013)

Some Infoish:

Austin, Texas is fast becoming the epicentre of a new musical wave engulfing the world with release upon release emanating from the location. The latest album to emerge is Love Inks’ second offering Generation Club, the follow up to 2011’s debut E.S.P. which was an ode to “loss, grief and insurmountable heartache” in the band’s own words.

For newcomers, Love Inks are an indie lo-fi dream-pop trio named after an ancient voodoo practice. The music revolves around the husband and wife team of Kevin Dehan (bass) and Sherry LeBlanc, the provider of a sultry, sexy voice reminiscent of Hope Sandoval crossed with Stevie Nicks; the trio is completed by most recent addition, guitarist Derek Brown.

The band’s lush minimalism is based around a core of Dehan’s soundscapes, predominantly built around simple electronica, with his subtle bass adding a further texture; drum machines, touches of guitar and LeBlanc’s delicate vocals complete the mix, which has all been recorded on a half-inch tape machine. Whereas E.S.P. was about loss, the new album represents an about turn, taking its focus from new beginnings and moving on.

Miracle – Mercury (Weekly Highlight!)

So, I like scary movies and I like to be afraid, so this creepy music video is perfect! I really like the song too. I’m probably going to have it in my top 100 of 2013 (one of these days!) Which is why it made the WEEKLY HIGHLIGHT (more like monthly…)

From the album Miracle – Mercury (2013)

Info ish:

Miracle’s debut album is a collaboration between two artists with a rich history in music you wouldn’t immediately associate with Mercury.

Daniel O’Sullivan has played and sung in bands such as Ulver, Mothlite, Grumbling Fur and Guapo, while Steve Moore has recorded as half of the Italian soundtrack inspired synth band Zombi, and on dance labels such as Kompakt and more recently L.I.E.S.

Hozier – Take me To Church

I think this song is getting popular because of the Leftovers show, but this is a beautiful song! Dear mother of pearl I like it!!

From the Album Take me to Church EP (2014)

Something about it:

The video references the recent increase of organized attacks and torturing of homosexuals in Russia, which is subsequent to a long,
hateful, and oppressive political campaign against the LGBT community.

Cut Copy – Free Your Mind

You might recognize the Jesus-like actor in this song. Check it out. I really enjoy the song! It gets a bit odd at the end, but whatever.

From the album Cut Copy – Free Your Mind (2013)

Reviewish:

Cut Copy’s fourth album is officially on the way. The Australian dance-rock outfit have confirmed that their next LP lands on November 5 courtesy Loma Vista/Modular. Dubbed Free Your Mind, the 14-track full-length was recorded in the band’s home city of Melbourne and later mixed by Dave Fridmann (Tame Impala, the Flaming Lips, MGMT) in upstate New York. Lead crooner Dan Whitford produced the set, which features a bubbly, soulful title track that’s streaming above.

Elsewhere on the upcoming record, listeners will find previously heard tune “Let Me Show You Love” (formerly known just as “Let Me Show You”) and what is likely “Explorers,” a song Cut Copy debuted live earlier this summer; now that synth assault looks to have been renamed “We Are Explorers.”

Per the press release, the follow-up to 2011′s Zonoscope was strongly influenced by the two Summers of Love (San Francisco in 1967 and Britain’s in 1988 and 1989). Says Whitford: “The concept of freedom is one that’s universally positive and timeless, and whatever each person’s version of that freedom is, it’s a good thing to be reminding people or even just ourselves to be ‘free.’”

Fans are free to see Cut Copy live when they embark on a world tour in support of Free Your Mind. The four-on-the-floor crew will hit the road on October 30, with gigs booked in North America, South America, and Europe through mid-December.
