6.2 – Support for Continuing Faculty Competence

In the past year the Dean has worked with the Directors of the College of Education Schools (Learning and Teaching and CSD) to modify the mechanisms for funding faculty development. At this time, faculty have access to $2,000 each academic year toward continuing education (conference registration, travel, online CE registration) as well as maintenance of licensure, certification fees and purchase of teaching materials. Annual application for travel support. In the past, these funds were specified with $1,500 allocated for conference attendance if giving a presentation, $1250 for attendance, and $300 for licensure and certification, $200 for teaching materials. The overall funding amount has not changed, the flexibility in how faculty decide to allocate these funds has increased.

The School of CSD is an ASHA CE provider, so we also support in-house continuing education and development for faculty.

Faculty development is routinely built into regular faculty and staff meetings, and into School and College of Education retreats. The topics are wide-ranging and include, but are not limited to: best practices in teaching and learning, building inclusive environments, shared journal article reading, and faculty sabbatical reports.

The School of CSD faculty and staff meet monthly in a learning community focused on equity, diversity, and inclusion. Topics include but are not limited to: indigenous history of our region, the role and responsibilities of land acknowledgements, LGBTQIA+ terminology and advocacy, interrupting microaggressions, inclusive teaching practice.
