The Slow Show – Dresden

Wow, this is gripping. I love this song and how the choir is apart of it. Probably one of my favorites in a while!

From the album: White Water (2015)

Abit about it:

Dresden the new single from The Slow Show on Haldern Pop Recordings is inspired by the band’s adventures while visiting the city on tour (“dark, dark tales from the Dresden dens”) it’s the first to be taken from White Water, The Slow Show’s long-awaited debut album due for release March 2015. Recorded over the past year in Blueprint Studios in Manchester (where Elbow record), White Water is the first UK release on German label Haldern Pop Recordings, the label formed by the team behind the successful Haldern Pop Festival.

There’s never been a band from Manchester quite like The Slow Show, whose minimal but epic songs swell from gentle piano-led Americana to roaring choruses with string and brass sections. These deeply personal songs about love and death have reduced audiences to hushed silence, even tears. Despite being under the radar in their hometown and only releasing one low-key EP, 2012’s Brother, they have found champions at BBC 6Music and Radio 2 and have played in Europe to large, sold out audiences. The band’s use of choirs and a colliery brass band gives them a distinctly northern sound, but singer Rob Goodwin’s deep, heartbreaking baritone sounds more like a distant relation of Johnny Cash than anything from the English North West.

Together since 2010, The Slow Show have, fittingly, given their name, taken their time over recording their debut. Like all good things, White Water has been worth the wait. These are deeply intimate songs yet with themes that strike a universal chord. Throughout, the words delivered with tenderness, care and empathy.

Sioen – Lost Today

Ok. The song is alright but the video is intriguing. I love the idea and I might do it someday! Watch it and see if you like it, like me!

From the album Man Mountain (2015).

Something to think about:

A key figure on the Belgian singer/songwriter scene since the early 2000s, multi-instrumentalist Frederik Sioen (born in Ghent, 1979), studied classical music before he began competing in various pop/rock contests as a solo artist. After recruiting a permanent backing band, including future Absynthe Minded violinist Renaud Ghilbert, he was asked to compose the soundtrack for 2003 film, Team Spirit II. The same year, Sioen he released his debut album, See You Naked, and following 2004’s Ease Your Mind and 2007’s A Potion, he teamed up with several local South African musicians in 2009 to record the Calling Up Soweto LP. His self-titled fifth studio effort arrived in 2012. ~ Jon O’Brien, Rovi

Bony King – Sad Rosanne

This is a great live session! Wow, I’m really impressed by Bony King. Check it out!!

From the album BONY KING – WILD FLOWERS (2015)

Check this guy out! Some info behind the music:

He’s bringing a new record and a name change: singer-songwriter Bram Vanparys will now simply be known as ‘Bony King’, formerly known as ‘The Bony King of Nowhere’.

Vanparys travelled to Los Angeles to record his fourth LP with multiple Grammy-winning producer Ryan Freeland. They recorded ten new songs, each one with unmistakable roots in the music of some of the greatest artists, such as Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Sufjan Stevens and Devendra Banhart (a fan!).

Bony King was joined in the studio by legendary drummer Jay Bellerose (Robert Plant, Ray Lamontagne, Solomon Burke, Bonnie Raitt), bass player Jennifer Condos (Bruce Springsteen, Ryan Adams) and pedal steel player Eric Heywood (The Pretenders, Ray Lamontagne). Back at home, Bony King will bring his classic, solid tracks to the stage with his trusty backing band.

Dawa – On The Run

Here is a lovely song. I’m going out on a limb here and say this guy will get discovered on the billboard charts one day.

From the album: Dawa – Psithurisma (2015)

Review ish:

John Dawa, Barbara Wiesinger, Laura Pudelek and Oama Richson´s debut album “This Should Work” has definitely worked and their second album “Psithurisma” ( which literally means rustling of leaves) is about to be released on the 27th of February.  And for that they have teamed up with the renowned Austrian producers Patrick Pulsinger and Oliver Brunbauer and retreated to the Styrian Schrattenberg. The forerunner of the album is called “On the Run” and we immediately fell in love with the soft sounds paired with the fantastic and warm voice of John. Just stunning!

CAIRO – A History of Reasons

This is very nice. Something new and kind, but still complex. Check it out! Warning, they say the F bomb once.

From the album: CAIRO –  A History of Reasons (2015)

Toronto indie rock crew CAIRO have been gaining momentum over the last few months, teasing the release of their debut LP A History of Reasons. We’ve already seen the video for the title track, but now the band have offered up the whole album to stream right here on Exclaim.ca.

Awash in reverb-heavy guitars, soft vocals and string accompaniment courtesy of Caitlin Grieve’s violin, the new collection of songs experiments with sound, while retaining familiar elements of the folk, pop and rock we all know and love.

The album was recorded last year with producer Nygel Asselin (Half Moon Run, Air Marhsal Landing), who managed to fully capture the band’s “ambitious sound.”

Sparkling indie pop numbers like “With You” are juxtaposed with quieter, folk-inspired numbers like “Render,” “Starry Eyes” and “Seventeen.” Others like “Kingdoms” and “Extinguishing Fires” lean towards good, old-fashioned rock’n’roll, making for an album that delivers a seamless blend of different sounds.

Check out these videos. Such a nice camera! from the director!!
