{"id":94,"date":"2016-09-01T14:49:36","date_gmt":"2016-09-01T21:49:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.ed.pacificu.edu\/tspc\/?page_id=94"},"modified":"2016-09-01T14:49:36","modified_gmt":"2016-09-01T21:49:36","slug":"social-studies-endorsement","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.ed.pacificu.edu\/tspc\/faculty-resources\/endorsement-oars\/social-studies-endorsement\/","title":{"rendered":"Social Studies Endorsement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"TOFC_Header\"><b>584-220-0170<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"TOFC_Rules\"><b>Social Studies<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(1) Purpose: A Social Studies endorsement indicates that an educator is qualified to teach prekindergarten through grade 12 assignments in Social Studies as provided by the TSPC Licensure Guide for Social Studies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(2) An educator is not authorized to teach in the endorsed area unless and until the endorsement is officially added to the license, except as provided OAR 584-210-0170 Atypical Assignments and OAR 584-210-0160, License on Conditional Assignment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(3) Adding to Existing Preliminary Teaching License: A Social Studies endorsement may be added to an existing Preliminary Teaching license by demonstrating content knowledge and completing Social Studies pedagogy requirements as defined in this rule. To be eligible to add a Social Studies endorsement to an existing Preliminary Teaching License, an applicant must:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(a) Meet one of the following Social Studies content knowledge requirements:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(A) Provide documentation of a passing score on the Commission-approved subject mastery test for Social Studies; or<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(B) Complete Commission-approved coursework of at least fifty-four quarter or thirty-six semester hours designed to develop competence in social studies, distributed as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(i) World history;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(ii) Geography;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(iii) Political science;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(iv) Sociology;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(v) Psychology;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(vi) Anthropology;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(vii) Economics; and<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(viii) U.S. history.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(C) At least fifty percent (50%) of the Social Studies coursework must have been completed within five years prior to the date of application for the endorsement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(b) Meet one of the following Social Studies pedagogy requirements:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(A) Admission to and Completion of a Commission-approved Social Studies preparation program; or<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(B) Complete a Social Studies pedagogy course of at least three quarter or two semester hours acceptable to the Commission. The course must include the word pedagogy or methods in the course title or must be acceptable to the Commission upon evaluation of course syllabi or other evidence; or<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(C) Complete a supervised practicum in a Social Studies assignment in a public school setting. To verify the practicum, a school district must submit a PEER form and a statement verifying that:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(i) The applicant completed at least 60 hours of a supervised practicum in Social Studies courses;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(ii) The practicum was supervised by a teacher holding a Professional, Teacher Leader or Legacy Teaching license with a Social Studies endorsement;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(iii) The applicant has obtained the required pedagogy skills to teach Social Studies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\"><strong>Note:<\/strong> The district must indicate in the statement that the supervisory teacher supports the verification of applicant skill level.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(iv) At the Executive Director\u2019s or Licensure Director\u2019s discretion, other Social Studies teaching experience such as teaching in at a post-secondary institution or in a private school setting may qualify to satisfy the practicum experience. In these settings, verification from the employer of satisfactory completion of the teaching experience with at least 60 clock hours of Social Studies instruction is required to qualify as a suitable practicum to add the endorsement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(c) Submit a complete and correct application to obtain the endorsement in the form and manner required by the Commission, including payment of all required fees as provided in OAR 584-200-0050.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\"><strong>Note: <\/strong>Adding the endorsement at the time of renewal will not require an additional cost to add the licensure renewal process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(4) Adding Social Studies Endorsement to Other Licenses: To be eligible to add a Social Studies endorsement to a Professional, Teacher Leader or Legacy teaching license, an applicant must:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(a) Meet one of the following content knowledge requirements:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(A) Provide documentation of a passing score on the Commission-approved subject mastery test for Social Studies; or<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(B) Complete Commission-approved coursework of at least fifty-four quarter or thirty-six semester hours designed to develop competence in social studies, distributed as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(i) World history;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(ii) Geography;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(iii) Political science;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(iv) Sociology;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(v) Psychology,;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(vi) Anthropology;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(vii) Economics; and<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(viii) U.S. history.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(C) At least fifty percent (50%) of the Social Studies coursework must have been completed within five years prior to the date of application for the endorsement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(b) Submit a complete and correct application to obtain the endorsement in the form and manner required by the Commission, including payment of all required fees as provided in OAR 584-200-0050.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"Rule_Number\"><b>Note<\/b>: Adding the endorsement at the time of renewal will not require an additional cost to add the licensure renewal process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"Rule_Title\">Stat.
