{"id":57,"date":"2016-09-01T14:41:01","date_gmt":"2016-09-01T21:41:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.ed.pacificu.edu\/tspc\/?page_id=57"},"modified":"2016-09-01T14:41:01","modified_gmt":"2016-09-01T21:41:01","slug":"health-education-endorsement","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.ed.pacificu.edu\/tspc\/faculty-resources\/endorsement-oars\/health-education-endorsement\/","title":{"rendered":"Health Education Endorsement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"TOFC_Header\"><b>584-220-0105<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"TOFC_Rules\"><b>Health<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(1) Purpose: A Health endorsement indicates that an educator is qualified to teach prekindergarten through grade 12 assignments in Health as provided by the TSPC Licensure Guide for Health.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(2) An educator is not authorized to teach in the endorsed area unless and until the endorsement is officially added to the license, except as provided in OAR 584-210-0170, Atypical Assignments and OAR 584-210-0160, License on Conditional Assignment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(3) Adding to Existing Preliminary Teaching License: A Health endorsement may be added to an existing Preliminary Teaching license by demonstrating content knowledge and completing Health pedagogy requirements as defined in this rule. To be eligible to add a Health endorsement to an existing Preliminary Teaching License, an applicant must:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(a) Meet one of the following Health content knowledge requirements:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(A) Provide documentation of a passing score on the Commission-approved subject mastery test for Health; or<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(B) Complete Commission-approved coursework of at least forty-two quarter or twenty eight semester hours designed to develop competency in Health that includes:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(i) Personal health;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(ii) Environmental and consumer health;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(iii) Mental and social health;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(iv) Safe living and emergency care; and<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(v) School health program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(C) At least fifty percent (50%) of the Health coursework must have been completed within five years prior to the date of application for the endorsement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(b) Meet one of the following Health pedagogy requirements:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(A) Admission to and completion of a Commission-approved Health preparation program; or<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(B) Complete a Health pedagogy course of at least three quarter or two semester hours acceptable to the Commission. The course must include the word pedagogy or methods in the course title or must be acceptable to the Commission upon evaluation of course syllabi or other evidence; or<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(C) Complete a supervised practicum in a Health assignment in a public school setting. To verify the practicum, a school district must submit a PEER form and a statement verifying that:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(i) The applicant completed at least 60 hours of a supervised practicum in Health courses;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(ii) The practicum was supervised by a teacher holding a Professional, Teacher Leader or Legacy Teaching license with a Health endorsement;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(iii) The applicant has obtained the required pedagogy skills to teach Health.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\"><strong>Note:<\/strong> The district must indicate in the statement that the supervisory teacher supports the verification of applicant skill level.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(iv) At the Executive Director\u2019s or Licensure Director\u2019s discretion, other Health teaching experience such as teaching in at a post-secondary institution or in a private school setting may qualify to satisfy the practicum experience. In these settings, verification from the employer of satisfactory completion of the teaching experience with at least 60 clock hours of Health instruction is required to qualify as a suitable practicum to add the endorsement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(c) Submit a complete and correct application to obtain the endorsement in the form and manner required by the Commission, including payment of all required fees as provided in OAR 584-200-0050.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\"><strong>Note:<\/strong> Adding the endorsement at the time of renewal will not require an additional cost to add the licensure renewal process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(4) Adding Health Endorsement to Other Licenses: To be eligible to add a Health endorsement to an existing Professional, Teacher Leader or Legacy teaching license, an applicant must:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(a) Meet one of the following content knowledge requirements:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(A) Provide documentation of a passing score on the Commission-approved subject mastery test for Health; or<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(B) Complete Commission-approved coursework of at least forty-two quarter or twenty-eight semester hours designed to develop competency in Health that includes:<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(i) Personal health;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(ii) Environmental and consumer health;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(iii) Mental and social health;<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(iv) Safe living and emergency care; and<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(v) School health program.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(C) At least fifty percent (50%) of the Health coursework must have been completed within five years prior to the date of application for the endorsement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(b) Submit a complete and correct application to obtain the endorsement in the form and manner required by the Commission, including payment of all required fees as provided in OAR 584-200-0050.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"Rule_Number\"><b>Note<\/b>: Adding the endorsement at the time of renewal will not require an additional cost to add the licensure renewal process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><span class=\"Rule_Title\">Stat.
