{"id":34,"date":"2016-09-01T14:14:56","date_gmt":"2016-09-01T21:14:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.ed.pacificu.edu\/tspc\/?page_id=34"},"modified":"2016-09-01T14:14:56","modified_gmt":"2016-09-01T21:14:56","slug":"advanced-mathematics","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.ed.pacificu.edu\/tspc\/faculty-resources\/endorsement-oars\/advanced-mathematics\/","title":{"rendered":"Advanced Mathematics Endorsement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"justify\"><span class=\"TOFC_Header\"><b>584-220-0020\u00a0<\/b><\/span><span class=\"TOFC_Rules\"><b>Advanced Mathematics<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(1) Purpose: An Advanced Mathematics endorsement indicates that an educator is qualified to teach prekindergarten through grade 12 assignments in advanced mathematics as provided by the TSPC Licensure Guide for Advanced Mathematics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(2) An Advanced Mathematics endorsement permits the holder to teach all levels of single subject mathematics, including foundational mathematics courses. (Foundational Mathematics courses are a subset of the full Advanced Mathematics endorsement.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(3) An educator is not authorized to teach in the endorsed area unless and until the endorsement is officially added to the license, except as provided in as provided in OAR 584-210-0170, Atypical Assignments and OAR 584-210-0160 License for Conditional Assignment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(4) Adding to existing Preliminary Teaching License: To be eligible to add an Advanced Mathematics endorsement to an existing Preliminary Teaching License, an applicant must meet the following content and pedagogy requirements:<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(a) Meet one of the following content knowledge requirements:<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 (A) Provide documentation of a passing score on the Commission-approved subject mastery test for Advanced Mathematics; or<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 (B) Complete Commission-approved advanced mathematics coursework of at least fifty-seven quarter or thirty-eight semester hours designed to develop competence in:<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(i) Mathematical Processes and Number Sense:<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(ii) Patterns, Algebra and Functions;<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(iii) Measurement and Geometry;<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(iv) Trigonometry and Calculus; and<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(v) Statistics, Probability and Discreet Mathematics.<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 (C) At least fifty percent (50%) of the Advanced Mathematics coursework must have been completed within five years prior to the date of application for the endorsement.<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(b) Meet one of the following Advanced Mathematics pedagogy requirements:<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 (A) Admission to and completion of a Commission-approved Advanced Mathematics preparation program as verified by the approved program in accordance with OAR 584-420-0300; or<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 (B) Complete an Advanced Mathematics pedagogy course of at least three quarter or two semester hours acceptable to the Commission. The course must include the word pedagogy or methods in the course title or must be acceptable to the Commission upon evaluation of course syllabi or other evidence; or<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 (C) Complete a supervised practicum in an advanced mathematics assignment in a public school setting. To verify the practicum, a school district must submit a PEER form and a statement verifying that:<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(i) The applicant completed at least 60 hours of a supervised practicum in advanced mathematics courses above Algebra I;<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(ii) The practicum was supervised by a teacher holding a Professional, Teacher Leader or Legacy Teaching license with an Advanced Mathematics endorsement;<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(iii) The applicant has obtained the required pedagogy skills to teach advanced mathematics.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"History\"><strong>Note:<\/strong> The district must indicate in the statement that the supervisory teacher supports the verification of applicant skill level.<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(iv) At the Executive Director\u2019s or Licensure Director\u2019s discretion, other Advanced Mathematics teaching experience such as teaching in at a post-secondary institution or in a private school setting may qualify to satisfy the practicum experience. In these settings, verification from the employer of satisfactory completion of the supervised teaching experience with at least 60 clock hours of Advanced Mathematics above Algebra I instruction is required to qualify as a suitable practicum to add the endorsement.<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(c) Submit a complete and correct application to obtain the endorsement in the form and manner required by the Commission, including payment of all required fees as provided in OAR 584-200-0050.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"History\"><strong>Note:<\/strong> Adding the endorsement at the time of renewal will not require an additional cost to add the licensure renewal process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"justify\"><span class=\"History\">(5) Adding to Advanced Math to Other Licenses: To be eligible to add an Advanced Mathematics endorsement to an existing Professional, Teacher Leader or Legacy teaching license, an applicant must:<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(a) Meet one of the following content knowledge requirements:<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 (A) Provide documentation of a passing score on the Commission-approved subject mastery test for Advanced Mathematics; or<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 (B) Complete Commission-approved advanced mathematics coursework of at least fifty-seven quarter or thirty-eight semester hours designed to develop competence in:<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(i) Mathematical Processes and Number Sense:<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(ii) Patterns, Algebra and Functions;<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(iii) Measurement and Geometry;<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(iv) Trigonometry and Calculus; and<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(v) Statistic, Probability and Discreet Mathematics.<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 (C) At least fifty percent (50%) of the Advanced Mathematics coursework must have been completed within five years prior to the date of application for the endorsement.<br \/>\n<\/span><span class=\"History\">\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(b) Submit a complete and correct application to obtain the endorsement in the form and manner required by the Commission, including payment of all required fees as provided in OAR 584-200-0050.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"Rule_Number\"><b>Note<\/b>: Adding the endorsement at the time of renewal will not require an additional cost to add the licensure renewal process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\" align=\"justify\"><span class=\"Rule_Title\">Stat.
