Quick Review:<\/p>\n

Simply put, it is a record that is positively brimming with atmospherics \u2014 soaring, sonorous strings, echoing electronic boom-bap, morose, maudlin guitar crescendos \u2014 all of which imbue it with a truly epic (if not unnecessarily dramatic) scope. Del Rey\u2019s critics will undoubtedly point out that scope as nothing more than cover for her perceived shortcomings as a performer, but it still makes Born to Die a rather thrilling headphones experience. This is an album that sounds like it cost a million bucks to make \u2014 mostly because it probably did.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is not to say that Born to Die is a bad album \u2014 far from it. In fact, it\u2019s certainly w-a-a-y better than most would\u2019ve expected (tellingly, even less will admit to that fact), and Del Rey does showcase some rather deft songwriting prowess \u2014 or at least a knack for penning a catchy chorus \u2014 particularly on the album\u2019s few bright moments, like \u201cOff to the Races,\u201d \u201cDiet MTN Dew\u201d and \u201cRadio.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
