Clock Opera – Whippoorwill

A very nice song. Something I can dig and dig often. They have a new album coming out so get excited. Check it out and enjoy!

From their upcoming album Venn (2017)

Some Stuff about them:

Clock Opera began with Guy Connelly, a London, England-based multiinstrumentalist whose soaring, emotionally naked voice recalled the likes of Paul Buchanan (the Blue Nile), Billy Mackenzie (Associates), and Antony Hegarty (Antony and the Johnsons) without being quite as extreme as the latter two vocalists. Clock Opera now release their second album Venn. Co-produced with Kristofer Harris (Bear’s Den, Matthew and The Atlas) at Squarehead Studios, Kent, it’s a darker beast than their debut. The distinctive sound of Clock Opera— the agile alto voices, a sleek and supple rhythm section, immaculate production — is still present, but there’s a marked shift in lyrical tone.

Sufjan Stevens – Eugene (Weekly Highlight!)

Had to do it! He must be my favorite artist, but writing songs about Oregon was freaking cool. This is Eugene. It’s about his mother and life in Eugene when he was growing up. On top of that, it’s a remarkable song. The entire album is about Oregon. He mentions the Sea Lion Caves, Spencer’s Butte, Tillimook burn, Eugene, Emerald Park, Painted Hills, The Dalles, Cottage Grove, and more. Oregonians should buy the album.

St. Lucia – Dancing On Glass

This is one of those songs that just gets ya. The video reminds me of Noah’s group of friends in Portland. Do you see the resemblance? Anyway, that may be inside too much, so just watch it.

From the most recent album Matter (2016)

A bit of a review:

You could never accuse St. Lucia’s wunderkind leader Jean-Philip Grobler of concealing his intentions. Matter (out today, January 29), the band’s follow-up to 2013’sWhen The Night, is 11 thundering blasts of power pop. They’ve taken the debut’s cavernous sounds and exploded them: The melodies are sharper, the song structures more concise and Grobler’s vocals more assured. In fact, we haven’t heard a male pop vocalist sing his heart out this way since the ’80s.

First single, “Dancing On Glass” is an earworm of hooks and choral vocals. ThroughoutMatter, the details actually do matter: A funky, Prince-like guitar and falsetto breakdown midway through “Physical,” layers of shimmer glazed over “Stay,” or the sweet final minute (“go find me somebody to love!”) of the album’s lone midtempo,“Love Somebody.”

Ra Ra Riot – Water

I really like the song. I’m not took blown away by the video. I hope you enjoy!

From the album Need Your Light (2016).

Consequence of Sound Says:

Everyone, it seems, wants more from Wesley Miles. The singer of baroque-gone-synth pop band Ra Ra Riot, Miles seems to inspire a particular imagination from his collaborating producers. Ra Ra Riot has worked with Ryan Hadlock (who went on to produce the Lumineers), Andrew Maury of RAC, Dennis Herring (who produced Modest Mouse’s path to the mainstream), and on their most recent LP, Need Your Light, Rostam Batmanglij, formerly of Vampire Weekend. Each album represented a new attempt to square the circle of the band’s apparent potential and its equally apparent lack of delivery on it.

It begins, perhaps, with the gap between Ra Ra Riot’s live performances and recorded catalog. In 2006, the band’s live show evoked a vision of Arcade Fire 2.0: a better lead vocalist, more thrashing, and arrangements with an unmistakable and unrestrained id. Then came the band’s debut self-titled EP. Propulsive songs like “Dying Is Fine” sounded flat and listless. The EP presented itself as bizarrely empty — strange for a band priding itself on overflowing fullness. The group self-produced the debut EP, the last time they solely controlled the recording of their music.

Daughters – Doing the Right Thing (Weekly Highlights!)

Oh wow. The song is great and sad. The video is as sad or more sad. Daughters deliver with a heart-wrenching look at dementia and what it feels like from all directions of the disease. I know the album isn’t out yet but it’s looking like a winner already! Enjoy!

From the forthcoming album Not to Disappear.

Will be released in July.
