If you are following me, you know I don’t change much. But I’ve added “tags” with the location of the band. That’s a big step for me. I have to take baby ones…. Anywho, here is Ben Howard. Cool video!

Borko – Born To Be Free (Weekly Highlight!)

Flawless, I’m highlighting this. Yep. Enjoy. Thank you for something different!

From the album: Borko – Born To Be Free (2012)

About:

He has the beard of a freedom fighter and the battlefield is our hearts. Even since long before his debut album Celebrating Life was released in 2008, Borko has been one of the most influential stalwarts in Reykjavík’s boiling music scene. His newest handiwork, Born to be Free, offers everything we could ask of Borko. This album manages to be both calm and complex at the same time with out having to tread any thin line. Songs like the title song and The Final Round are an energetic comment on urban life, while the final song Sing to the World is a universal anthem. There is a sense of charismatic vibrancy which juxtaposes perfectly with the intricate nature of Borko’s carefully crafted music. Simply by putting the needle to this album the battle is already half won.

Bon Iver – Beth/Rest

Bon Iver has stepped of the beaten path and made another one! What the devil?! Sax? Dream-like sound? Auto-tuning? Electric Guitar? Is this the same guy?

Jonathan Jeremiah – Lazin’ In The Sunshine

Someone has two first names as his full name! This is a mellow little tune. A bit poppy but I’ll let that slide. I’m in the mood for SUNSHINE!

Kopecky Family Band – Heartbeat

Cool. This is some classic indie pop. Enjoy the feel.

From the album Kopecky Family Band – Kids Raising Kids (2012)

Reviewish:

After countless shows and loads of media attention, Kopecky Family Band is set to release the highly anticipated debut album Kids Raising Kids. With a seemingly endless run of touring over the last five years, the band has grown into one of the most exciting acts to come out of Nashville’s recent hotbed of indie music.

While co-founder Kelsey Kopecky is the namesake of the band, the six members take the family moniker to heart, each playing various instruments to produce a warm homegrown sound wholly their own. In many ways, Kopecky Family Band encapsulates their hometown of Nashville: emergent, vibrant, Southern, and deeply rooted in a musical background that creates a truly distinctive character. Just as their city has come a long way, the LP arrives as a culmination of years of hard work for Kopecky Family Band. From the sound of it, Kids Raising Kids may be the first big step towards an ever-rising future.

Barnaby Bright – Old Coats

Wow, Beautiful! This reminds me of walking in the fall. You? Comment…

From the album Barnaby Bright – The Longest Day (2012)

Blurb:

Brooklyn’s Barnaby Bright, the husband and wife duo of Becky and Nathan Bliss, have been quietly creating exquisite and gracefully nuanced folk/pop over the past few years, highlighting Becky’s effortlessly angelic vocals and Nathan’s warm, straightforward instrumental arrangements. Long awaited full-length The Longest Day (October 23, Mishara) is another confident step forward, an expansion of the Bliss’ wistful and whimsical acoustic styles across slightly exotic world music boundaries — particularly in Becky’s extraordinary singing — and a more personal approach to the lyrical threads of their songwriting. From the stunning Celtic-flavored “Donalogue” to the simmering, slowly building intensity of “Old Coats” (exclusive free download below) to the lovely, gently finger-picked “Castle Rock”, The Longest Day has echoes of the new wave of British folk as well as the modern Americana delicacies of The Civil Wars. Above all, the new songs go beyond easy comparisons to herald Barnaby Bright’s own coming of age. Intimate, honest and lovingly crafted, The Longest Day is easily one of the best discoveries of the year.
