Social Media and Digital Citizenship

Social Media is a relatively new form of communication and allows for new, exciting ways to maintain social relationships. Social Media opens new doors for communication, but this new access also comes with risks. Social Media creates a record of activity and can serve as a form of documentation. Recently, law enforcement has become increasingly invested in holding citizens accountable for content found on social media. As the role of social media evolves, students and adults must strive to use social media in a responsible, respectful manner. This page provides resources to be used in the classroom and for parents, aiming to help students use social media safely and responsibly, with the understanding that what is posted to the internet, cannot easily be removed from the internet. This permanency makes responsible social media use pivotal.
